Bridal Gift Registry

Enroll in a Bridal Gift Registry 9 months prior to your Wedding Day. Here are some useful tips!!

Selection
- What range of products and brands does the registry carry? Make sure the registry you pick has the brands you want, a variety of price points, and a large selection of different products.

Shipping -  Will they ship to the address you designate? Can they send gifts in a batch? The best retailers will send your gifts to any address you specify. That spares your guests the hassle of having to go to a store or the post office to pick up your gift.

Convenience - Is the process hassle-free for buyers? Can your list be faxed to faraway guests so they can order by phone or fax back their order? Does the store have a toll-free number? Better yet, will your registry be available online? Can guests purchase gifts online?

Tracking - How will the retailer keep track of your registry? How fast after a gift is bought will the purchase be reflected on the list? Big retailers should have a computerized system that is updated frequently.

Exchanges
- How long is the exchange/return period? What are the terms? The exchange and return policy is crucial. You don't want to end up with any duplicates or get back from your honeymoon and find out that you have only 10 days left to exchange or return any items you don't want. Read the
fine print!

Perks - Different retailers offer different benefits. For example, some offer what's called a completion program that allows you to fill in whatever you don't receive at a discount. Or they may let you buy your wedding bands at a discount.

File Keeping - How long will your registry list be kept active after the wedding? Guests have up to one year from your wedding day to buy you your gift, so that's at least how long your registry should be kept active.

Sweet Sixteen or Quinceanera

In these special coming of age occasions for girls passing into adulthood, as we enter into the season of Autumn, we at Vanity Fare thought we would inspire some ideas for your celebrations for those born in the later months of the year, for Sweet Sixteen and Quinceanera.
Whether you wish your celebration to be formal or casual, we offer you our venue and will help to cater for your personal choices in the ideas you have for the up and coming birthday girl.

The Party

You might be thinking of a formal sit down meal to celebrate or a more casual setting. You may wish   a special theme to honor the birthday girl and think of some games like a treasure hunt or musical chairs. If you are thinking of a color theme perhaps the Sweet Sixteen’s favourite colors and at this time of year, the colors of nature also blend into a warm sweetness that symbolises the approaching of maturity. Candles are important and you may wish to select  shades that are warm for the  ceremony.  And for the birthday cake, you could personalise with name or a picture.  Her favourite things in the world might be useful to think of when setting a theme.

Gifts

For both the Quinceanera and the Sweet Sixteen, engraved and personalised gifts are popular and the keepsakes will always remind the young ladies of their special coming of age celebration. A photo montage of all the years leading to this day would make a precious personal souvenir too. I think some nice elegance in the form of jewelry set perhaps with the birthstone of the Sweet Sixteen/Quinceanera is also a very hallmark of the day to remember.
If you have an upcoming Sweet Sixteen/Quinceanera, we offer you at Vanity Fare our Splendid Venue and our support in any way we can to make your girl’s day memorable.

Bar Mitzvah Hall in NJ

Do you have an Upcoming Bar Mitzvah?

We cater for your Bar and Bat Mitzvahs here at Vanity Fare.  If your child, relation, or friend is reaching this special coming of age celebration, we are right here to offer you assistance in tailoring your special day to meet the wishes you have and to offer you a splendid venue in which you may require to host your day.
For the child, his or her thirteenth year is very important and you will be focusing on creating an effect that represents the uniqueness of the Bar Mitzvah.

What Gift should I bring?

Bringing a gift to the party is a nice symbol to share the celebration with the young adult.  Some gifts are given traditionally but whatever you have in mind, always bear the personality of the child in mind.  Ask the parents if you are unsure.
A Kiddush cup, Tallis or Tefilin are traditionally gifted by the parents, grandparents and close relatives of the Bar Mitzvah.
Other ideas include gifts of money, often gifted in sums of 18.  18 symbolizes good luck and in Jewish; Chai which means life.  Multiples of 18 ($18, $36, $72 etc) are popular in monetary gifts, and serve to wish the Bar Mitzvah a good life and prosperity.  Gift cards are another good idea allowing for personal choice.

Food

Whether it’s a sit down or a buffet style reception, one thing everyone loves is hummus. It’s a delicious blend of chickpeas seasoned in a variety of ways. Savory tasters might include mini brisket sliders, mini sushi, pastrami or bagels filled with kosher foods like white fish and salad.  On the sweeter side, what about a chocolate fountain, ice cream,  and cupcake towers; a variety of color and a mouthwatering sight.  Is your mouthwatering yet?  It should be when you think of Rugelach, a favorite pastry filled with walnuts, chocolate, marzipan to name a few.

Here we cater for your special occasions and offer you our splendid venue to host your Bar Mitzvah.
With love from Vanity Fare.

Your Bridal Shower

That very special day when the girls get together to celebrate the bride to be. Do you have a bridal shower forecast? At Vanity Fare, we looked at some ideas we thought you might enjoy on your bridal shower day.

Fun and Festive!

Bingo with a twist of BRIDE of course. Simply create bingo cards but instead of bingo, implement bride. Whoever wins will then call Bride!! A sweet-themed idea to celebrate a bridal shower.

Two Truths and a Lie

This concept involves the guests remembering their most memorable moments with the bride. In turn, each guest will then tell the party three significant stories; one of which is not true. The guest who spots the lie earns points. We have all heard the saying that truth can be stranger than fiction? This game proves that in some cases this is definitely strangely true. A fun-packed memorable game. Bridal shower games are a fantastic way for people who don’t know each other well to get acquainted.

Cake Candy and Color

Finger foods work all day long so if you have to slot your shower into a morning or afternoon, they are a good way to go. Cakes and cookies can be personalized to honor the bride to be.
If you’re having a color theme, you’ll be thinking from candy to balloons and it’s nice to pick decorations and foods that compliment each other.

There’s always a way for sweet and savory. If you are thinking warm colors; pinks, orange, reds, trays of yellow orange and red peppers, carrot batons are great complimentary colors to sit beside your candies. Food coloring allows us to create a beautifully diverse array of cakes and candies.

Of course you want a variety of food, but think carefully on a select few things that will really stand out together if you are thinking of a color theme.

If there’s one persons taste which is important, it’s that of the bride. It’s her special day so be sure to join forces to find out what she loves. She will be the one who provides the key to colors and foods she likes.
If you think that a sit down dinner would be preferred; this allows for a beautiful table setting and choice of menus. Again think of the bride. If she’s more of a formal lady perhaps this would be the preferential food presentation.

At Vanity Fare we offer you our beautiful venue to host your Bridal Shower. Please feel free to contact us if you would like any assistance with your planning.

Your Wedding Ring

The wedding ring is a symbol of eternal love. There will never be a ring that can equal this piece of jewelry.  The exchange of rings represents a  lifetime between two people who love each other exchanging hearts and committing to each other on the deepest level. The shape of the wedding ring represents the circle of life and you both have entwined circles. You want to find exactly the perfect set to express how deep your love is.

What is perfect for you depends on who you are. Some of us have a quirky sense of humor and might go for custom made jewelry that exhibits their quirkiness while others may choose  precious symbols of a time or place where they fell deeply in love. Custom made jewelry gives variety and individuality  and the thoughts behind it give it special  meaning. When talking about wedding rings, the saying the thought really went into it couldn’t be any more profound. You might cherish your partner in a special way that only you both recognize and this can be shared with your guests in whatever way you see fit; the best man can make it part of his speech or you can keep it personal between you both depending on your choices. Wedding rings symbolize an actual wearing of your relationship so they have to be selected with care.

You will have your own personal preference, and whether silver, gold or platinum, mixed with birth stones or diamonds,  your rings will be crafted to you both as a couple.  They can be engraved with the date of your wedding day or something that you both remember and want to keep like the place you met, or something you said that you both always remembered.

A band signifies unity and oneness, and no matter what precious metal it is made from, from the rings resound the echoes of everything of you and your partner.

With love from Vanity Fare.

Wedding | Baby Shower | Sweet Sixteen

As we all know Friday starts off our weekend. This Friday we are having Christmas! No not literally but we are having a Christmas themed sweet 16. To go along with the theme, the tables will be flowing red and green alternating napkins. The table cloths will be an elegant white lace with the chairs accenting with a red bow. There is rumored to be a Christmas tree present. Who knows if Santa will show up. Is everyone’s appetite ready? To be served buffet style, we are expecting Chicken Francaise, Penne Ala Vodka, Eggplant Rollantine and one of my personal favorites, Sausage and Peppers. Now I don’t know about you but my sweet tooth is tingling. We are expecting a chocolate fountain, a sheet cake and an ice cream sundae bar. My favorite is chocolate. This sounds so exciting!

On Saturday we will be celebrating a union of two people. A wedding will be taking place here at Vanity Fare Caterers. This is a very special time in anyone’s life as they get to embark on starting a new life with the one they love. For the reception we will be seeing gold lame tablecloths, ivory napkins, and champagne bows around the chairs. Their cocktail hour will be starting in our Regency room and as we move into our main courses, the party will move into the ballroom.  It seems to me that this will be a night they will never forget.

Sunday will be another unforgettable afternoon. A baby shower! Can you guess the sex? Here is a hint; it’s going to be Princess themed. It’s a girl! The tables will be decorated with silver lame with lace, baby pink napkins and the chairs will have baby pink bows. I can’t wait to see how the mommy to be likes it when it all comes together.

Questions to ask your Wedding Caterer

At Vanity Fare Caterers we want your wedding day to be spectacular. We welcome all your questions and inquiries and are always trying to educate our brides and grooms. Here are some tips from TheKnot.com on choosing a wedding caterer...

You'll spend more money on wedding food than any other aspect of your reception, so you'll want to work with a top-notch professional.
When making appointments to interview wedding caterers, try to schedule a tasting of their wares at a later point. Don't forget to ask them the questions below, and choosing a caterer will be as easy as pie -- just make sure your taste buds have a say in the matter too.

1) Does the caterer specialize in certain types of food or service? (They should provide you with sample menus to review.) Find a wedding caterer who can make a memorable meal.

2) Can the caterer arrange for a tasting of the specific foods you're interested in prior to hiring? (They should.) Schedule a tasting if you get a good vibe.

3) What is the caterer's average price range? Are costs itemized depending on the foods you choose, or is there an all-inclusive flat rate? What would that include (linens, tax, and gratuity)? Does the caterer have printed price sheets for food selections? Make sure there's room in your wedding budget.

"Sweet" Wedding Favors

"Sweet" Wedding Favors
At many of the weddings recently held here at Vanity Fare, couples have displayed beautiful candy buffets as not only an additional dessert option for their guests but also as wedding favors.  We have previously mentioned the concept here before, but today we wondered "Where did this trend come from?"  Since we could not find much online concerning a history and/or origin of the candy buffet, we thought it might be fun to share our theory of origin with you.

Our hypothesis is that giving candy as a wedding favor originated from the Italian tradition of thanking guests with confetti.
"Confetti", more commonly referred to as Jordan almonds, are almonds that have been "candied" with a hardened sugar shell.  They are wrapped in tulle fabric, always in groups of five.  Symbolically, they represent both the bitter (almond) & sweet (sugar) aspects of life, and each individual almond represents for the five "cornerstones" of marriage: health, happiness, longevity, fertility, and wealth.  The hardened sugar shell is traditionally supposed to be white, which is contrary to the pastel-colored ones seen so frequently today.

The history of these sweet treats dates back to the times of ancient Greece where honey-coated almonds we a common sight to be served at various festivities.  As years passed, sugar became more widely available in the market place and thus replaced honey as a coating for the almonds.  It wasn't an Italian tradition until an Italian family perfected the dragée almond (its proper term in the culinary world).  The process employs a technique called sugar panning to create the hard, outer shell that coats other candies or nuts.  This same process is used today for creating such treats as M&Ms and jelly beans.

Maybe the candy buffet is, at it's core, an elaborate homage to this traditional wedding favor.  Maybe it's not.  It's simply our philosophy.  Either way, we still think these dessert displays make a "sweet" addition to any wedding (or other gathering).

Buon Appetito!

Master of the House, Keeper of the Inn…

Ladies and gentlemen, it's that time again…time for your weekly dose of wedding traditions from around the globe!  Today, we'll be traveling to Germany and learning about the tradition of the German bridal cup!

The cup itself (as seen in the picture to your right) is shaped in the form a maiden holding a cup above her head.  Her dress is itself an upside-down goblet while the other cup (the one the maiden is holding) is a swivel cup.  As the toast begins, the best man takes the cup and holds it upside down while filling it with whatever beverage the couple is toasting with.  As he does this, he tells the history of the cup and how the tradition came to be.  After he fills the maiden's "dress", he will then fill the maiden's "cup", which has swiveled to remain upright and able to be filled with the same beverage.  The goblet is then handed to the groom and bride who are instructed to drink from the glass at the same time to signify their union as one.  The groom holds the dress while the bride holds the swivel cup.

At this time, right before they are about to drink, the maid of honor will traditionally (and oh-so conveniently) state to the crowd that whoever finishes their drink first will be the "ruler of the nest".  As the bride will obviously finish her small cup before the groom, the joke is always on him.  Because as we all know, a happy wife truly does equal a happy life.

We'll see you next week for more wedding traditions from around the globe!  Until then, happy planning!

101 Best Cost-Cutting Wedding Tips

Wedding expenses can add up quickly, but you can stay on budget with these money-saving strategies.

To the surprise of many—if not most—couples, wedding expenses can add up quickly. Fortunately, there are lots of ways to trim your costs and still have the big day that you've dreamed about. Here, money-saving strategies from experts and recent brides and grooms. (Now you just have to figure out what to do with all that leftover cash!)
101 Best Cost-Cutting Wedding Tips

Budget Smarts from the Start

1. Resist the temptation to stock up on "bargains," such as cheap candles or ribbon, before you've actually decided upon the look of your wedding. "Fifty dollars here and a hundred dollars there add up, and you may end up not using the stuff," says New Jersey-based wedding planner Samantha Goldberg of Gold Events.

2. If you get a chunk of cash early on—say, a contribution from your parents—invest in a three-month CD, so you can earn some money until it's time to pay your vendors.

Mint Condition

One of the hot trends for this spring is the color mint.  It has been selected as the on-trend color for 2013.  Lighter than both Robin's Egg and Tiffany blue, it is soft and airy and lends itself to many different avenues of inspiration.  When combined with whites and ivorys, a sense of "something old" is felt while still being "something new".  Mixed amongst other pastels (in whatever colors you choose), one can imagine themselves surrounded by the feelings reminiscent of country-chic wedding.  And as a background for glass and crystal, it helps to emit an air of light glamour and sophistication.

As always, we believe that every bride should go with her instincts and what will work for her wedding.  But remember that trends are simply a source of inspiration.  Take a moment and see if that inspiration will work for you.  Maybe it won't...but maybe it just will.
