Five trends - color, portrait backs, peplums, lace, and convertible gowns - dominated the Spring 2013 Bridal runways, together signaling a new direction for the American bride.

She no longer feels bound to virginal all-white palettes, as heralded last season by Vera Wang's black-and-nude collection which gave way six months later to a stampede of crimson creations. Other designers known for their bold choices, such as Oscar de la Renta and Romona Keveza, also showed unconventional palettes, although while keeping their more traditional clientele in mind.

"Bar Mitzvah" literally means "son of the commandment." "Bar" is "son" in Aramaic, which used to be the vernacular of the Jewish people. "Mitzvah" is "commandment" in both Hebrew and Aramaic. "Bat" is daughter in Hebrew and Aramaic. Technically, the term refers to the child who is coming of age, and it is strictly correct to refer to someone as "becoming a bar (or bat) mitzvah." However, the term is more commonly used to refer to the coming of age ceremony itself, and you are more likely to hear that someone is "having a bar mitzvah" or "invited to a bar mitzvah."

So what does it mean to become a bar mitzvah? Under Jewish Law, children are not obligated to observe the commandments, although they are encouraged to do so as much as possible to learn the obligations they will have as adults. Fun Fact: Origin of the Ring Finger

You may ask yourself, out of all five fingers on each hand, why was the ring finger chosen to be the finger to the left of your pinky? This tradition originates from our Western roots in the Romans. They truly believed that this same finger was connected directly to the heart, the symbol of love, by a vein medically known as the vena amoris, or romantically, as the “vein of love.”  This demonstrates that marriage is founded on love.

Very interestingly, in the Chinese culture, each finger represents a key figure in your family. The thumb is known to represent your parents, while the index finder represents your siblings. The tallest finger, your middle finger, represents you and your ring finger represents your life partner. The pinky finger represents your children.

The placement of the ring is to display the symbol of marriage. Hence, a ring on another finger does not have as much power to signify that one may be married.

This tradition of the recognition of the fourth finger as the ring finger shows the cultural and religious significance in  which why this finger was selected to be the one, the only.

More Than Just Weddings - Vanity Fare, NJ

Recently, Vanity Fare was awarded the prestigious Bride's Choice Award 2012, placing our facility in the top five percentile of wedding professionals! We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our past cliental for all their positive feedback and referals of the past year. However, we would like to remind you that our services are not in existence simply to be utilized for the purpose of weddings. Vanity Fare is a divine choice for a variety of different occasions & functions!
Over the course of the past month, Vanity Fare has hosted a number of fabulous non-wedding events. Two darling little girls were "transformed" into women at their Quinceaneras, complete with both traditional and ballroom dances, candle-lighting ceremonies, and one very modern father-daughter jive set to Elvis' "Hound Dog".
What followed these events was some truly outside-the-box thinking: a dance studio made up of fifty adorable young ladies turned the ballroom dance floor of Vanity Fare into a stage for their winter recital. The girls danced their hearts out, performing seventeen individual numbers with costume changes for each number! Following the show, the girls, their parents and their instructors indulged in some of our chef's exquisitely-prepared dishes before jumping back onto the dance floor to celebrate their achievements.

Sweet Sixteen Parties

It doesn't seem all that long ago that I turned 16, even though if you asked a sixteen year old they'd guess it was back before air travel. All the same, I can remember how I felt when I became Sweet 16. I felt that I was pretty much all grown up at that point, and only my parents (and some minor legal technicalities!) stood between me and adult privileges. I bring this up because when you're planning to celebrate this milestone event, it's important to respect the self-image of your growing teenager and her desire to be treated as an adult. But at the same time, if you're lucky, your teenager is still young enough not to have lost the desire to have lots of kid-like fun.
