Wedding Tip January 20, 2010

Being asked to stand up for someone at their wedding is a very big honor. There is a lot to consider when making the decision to ask someone to be a groomsman or bridesmaid. You want to make sure that your closest friends whom you want to share in this day have the time and resources to fulfill their duties. Some things you may want to ask yourself before asking them are: 1) Are they financially able to do this? There are so many expenses to consider: tuxedo rental, purchasing a gown, throwing a shower or bachelor party, travel expenses and lodging if they are from out of town . . . 2) Do they have children? If they do, will children be invited to attend or will you have to arrange for a babysitter? Will the children be a part of the wedding, and if so, are they old enough to be able to handle it? 3) Are there family issues or opinions that may dictate who should stand up for you? And if so, you can always create an “honorary” position for someone. 4) Dress style for bridesmaids may be dictated by the fact that everyone may be a different size or body type.
